Evaluation of disinfectants and phytosanitary treatments against Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. michiganensis in tomato crops

Clavibacter michiganensis (Cm) is a bacteria responsible for bacterial canker of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.), one of the main crop produiced in Canadian greenhouses. Cm represents a major threat to the sector, as it causes significant yield losses and a decrease in fruit quality. Currently, control relies mainly on preventive measures, including the use of disinfectants, as well as the elimination of contaminated plants and the application of phytosanitary products. However, the effectiveness of products registered in Quebec against Cm has never been evaluated. In addition, the majority of these products are copper-based, which contributes to environmental pollution and promotes the emergence of resistant strains. My project aims to analyze these products to assess their benefits and limitations, while exploring more sustainable alternatives, such as the use of biological agents. The objective is to evaluate the most promising existing solutions for the management of Cm and to offer producers more effective control strategies that respect health and the environment.
